Possible Repair Mechanism for Hydrocarbon-Based Ionomers Following Damage by Radical Attack

نویسندگان

چکیده

Polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) membranes are subject to radical-induced degradation. Antioxidant strategies for hydrocarbon-based ionomers containing aromatic units can focus on intermediates that formed upon attack by hydroxyl radicals (HO · ). Among the different intermediates, cation radical P ·+ is most promising target repair, example cerium(III). For “repair” reaction of Ce(III) with a poly( ? -methylstyrene sulfonate) oligomer we determined an activation energy (9 ± 2) kJ mol ?1 and rate constant 1.6 10 8 M s at 80 °C pulse-radiolysis. reduction Ce(IV) hydrogen peroxide was stopped-flow as (30 1) 4.8 6 °C. These parameters fed into kinetics model estimate efficacy cerium (III)/(IV) redox couple catalytic repair agent in membranes. While mitigate polymer degradation, depends degradation pathway nature lifetime intermediates.

A Mechanism for Detecting and Identifying DoS attack in VANET

VANET (Vehicular Ad-hoc Network) which is a hy- brid network (combination of infrastructure and infra- structure-less networks) is an emergent technology with promising future as well as great challenges especially in security. By the other hand this type of network is very sensible to safety problem. This paper focuses on a new mechanism for DoS (denial of service) attacks on the physical and ...

DNA repair: How yeast repairs radical damage

Cloning of the OGG1 gene from Saccharomyces cerevisiae has revealed that DNA glycosylases are not necessarily conserved throughout phylogeny, yet there is a DNA-repair protein superfamily with a wide substrate specificity found from bacteria to man.

A possible mechanism for exonuclease 1-independent eukaryotic mismatch repair.

Mismatch repair contributes to genetic stability, and inactivation of the mammalian pathway leads to tumor development. Mismatch correction occurs by an excision-repair mechanism and has been shown to depend on the 5' to 3' hydrolytic activity exonuclease 1 (Exo1) in eukaryotic cells. However, genetic and biochemical studies have indicated that one or more Exo1-independent modes of mismatch rep...

Telomeric DNA damage by topoisomerase I. A possible mechanism for cell killing by camptothecin.

Topoisomerase I adjusts torsional stress in the genome by breaking and resealing one strand of the helix through a transient covalent coupling between enzyme and DNA. Camptothecin, a specific topoisomerase I poison, traps this covalent intermediate, thereby damaging the genome. Here we examined the activity of topoisomerase I at telomeric repeats to determine whether telomere structures are tar...
